Over the last month or so we've been sending out an email to people which has a brief recap of some of the interesting things we've found on the internet over the course of the week. We thought that this is something other people might find interesting so here is this weeks list of cool things on the internet. The list is compiled by our Head of Digital - Hugh Curran.
Facebook have been working on a Facebook 'Lite' for a while now. Basically it's a version of the app that uses smaller amounts of data and it's specifically created for those in developing countries who rely on 2G. The app isn't available in Ireland - but it is still interesting. Worth checking it out here.
IF. I thought everyone had heard of If This Then That. But I was wrong. This is a great automation tool for your phone and they do a much better job explaining what they do than I do. Basically though it helps you create automatic 'recipes' so that if one thing happens - then your phone will automatically do another thing. So if you post a photo to Instagram, it will autopost to Twitter for example. Check it out here
Fans of Domino's behold. You can now order your favourite pizza by tweeting an emoji. The future has arrived. In America only. This isn't entirely a new thing but what makes this interesting is that it's permanent. By setting up your Twitter handle with your online account and nominating your favourite pizza, you can just tweet and you'll get a fresh pizza delivered to your door. It'll be interesting to see if it rolls out in Europe. Read more here
You know how you have hundreds of photos on your phone that you never look at? Google have a thing for that. It's called Google Photos and the internet is in meltdown about it. This service will let you save all your photos into one place. But the big deal is the storage space. Unlimited! Check out this article for more info
How we watch TV & sport has changed alot in the last 5 years and this article explains the NFL's partnership with Yahoo! to live stream, for free, a regular season game. It's really quite a big deal and could be a model other leagues follow soon
This is a really interesting piece about American Standard, a US based apparel and fitness clothing company crowdsourcing their social campaign. The company is small so it's not a solution for everyone, but it's still really interesting
Late in 2014 I was asked for my digital predictions for 2015. One of them was mobile payments would take off. These two articles show that I might be a year off, but mobile payments are coming. Find out why here & here. And if you want to read more of my other people's predictions you can find them in this report from Shane O'Leary.
So if you were under a rock, on Monday Apple WWDC 2015 took place. WWDC is where Apple pat themselves on the back and announce all their new upgrades and what not. If you want to know what's coming you should check here
