Election Fever. US Elections that is.
So we now know who's going to duke it out in a General Election for the position of President of the United States. I don't think anyone was surprised at the nominees to be fair. I've always had a fascination with US elections and this is increasingly true as I watch the digital tactics being used. America, you see, seems to have adopted digital techniques far quicker than Irish Politics and is at least a bit ahead of English electioneers. So if you like digital and you like politics - you should really keep an eye on the US elections.
Instagram Stories. Or is it Snapchat? Or is it Snapstagram? That's right Instagram have dropped an update that is basically a rip off of Snapchat. Thing is, lots of people don't like it. Read about the update here
If you're even a little like me, you'll change your password regularly. It just makes good security sense. But it can be a pain changing all your passwords. Google may be about to change that with Dashlane. And you can read about it here
We all love a good geo filter on Snapchat, but pretty soon you'll be able to drop in your location as gaeilge thanks to the team in Conradh na Gaeilge. They're even running a competition to find the designs. Check it out here
Funny how things go in the digital/tech world. You don't hear of a brand for ages and then BAM - they're everywhere. Like Nintendo. First was the preloaded NES and now we have details about their new flaship console. It sounds amazing.
Another new ad format on Twitter. This one is designed to drive users to Tweet using your hashtag. Using the format will allow you to fence off content that users can view by tweeting with your hashtag. Interesting stuff
Facebook made a change to it's algorithm. You'll never guess what happened next. If lines like that on Facebook annoy you beyond reason, things might be about to get a whole lot better. Facebook are going after clickbait
We all know that gun violence in the US is out of control. You'd have to be a member of the NRA or live under a rock not to see it. So much so that Apple are taking a subtle, yet impressive stand, via their emoji. And it's not the only change either
This weeks covetable item is the Galaxy Note 7. Yeah, ok, I do have the Galaxy S7, but the specs on this thing are incredible. And it finally might be the phablet to tip us over the edge into mainstream phablets. God, I want one.
The first story this week is about #Snapstagram. It's a really interesting departure for Instagram. But for me, there's an awful lot of work for them to do on it. So I wrote a blog to convey my thoughts. You can check it out here.
